Job Title: K-8 Exceptional Children’s Teacher - General Curriculum Licensed
Location: Glade Creek School
Nature of Work:
Under general supervision, provide special education services to students identified as EC in accordance with State and Federal regulations. Work involves developing and implementing the Individualized Education Program (IEP) that is compatible with the student’s age and developmental level. The Exceptional Children teacher is responsible for developing lesson plans, adapting materials and designing activities to assist EC students develop appropriate academic, behavioral, and social skills and to meet their IEP goals.
Responsibilities include:
- Planning and presenting instruction in a variety of styles to help students with disabilities learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development as well as aid and enhance progress toward individual goals.
- Develop and implement Individual Education Plans (IEP) for students with disabilities; using diagnostic information obtained from tests and other assessment procedures to update IEPs as needed.
- Employ a variety of teaching methods to meet individual student needs.
- Monitor attainment of IEP goals and adjust as necessary.
- Communicate with parents regarding their children’s educational progress.
- Act as a case manager for assigned students and consult with all stakeholders to better understand and meet student needs.
- Maintain student records in accordance with North Carolina’s Procedures Governing Programs and Services for Children with Disabilities; and complies with State and Federal education statutes.
- Perform other related work as required.
Qualification Requirements:
- Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Special Education from a Regionally Accredited College or University.
- Must be licensed in Special Education/General Curriculum (88091) or eligible for licensure.
