EXCEPTIONAL TEACHER ASSISTANT GLADE CREEK SCHOOL
Under general supervision, performs a variety of technical and clerical tasks in assisting a teacher of students with disabilities. Employee may perform a wide range of tasks in order to support the efforts of the teacher, meet the needs of all students, and ensure the provision of quality instruction for all students. Employee provides individual assistance with academics, functional skills, and behavior, and may lead small group activities.
Job duties and responsibilities may include:
- Provide one-on-one or small group instruction to EC students under the supervision of a certified EC teacher.
- Implement instructional activities and intervention strategies as directed by the EC teacher or IEP team.
- Support students with skill development in reading, writing, math, organization, and/or behavior.
- Assist students in accessing and completing assignments by providing clarification, scaffolding, or alternate formats as needed.
- Reinforce goals and objectives listed in students' IEPs.
- Monitor and document student progress using data collection tools provided by the EC teacher.
- Collaborate with general education staff to support inclusive practices and appropriate accommodations.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding student records, needs, and services in accordance with FERPA and IDEA.
- Participate in required training sessions, staff meetings, and professional development activities related to EC services.
- Utilize positive behavior strategies to support students’ emotional and behavioral regulation.
- Prepare instructional materials as needed, including adapted resources and visuals.
- Escort or assist students with transitions between classes or during arrival/dismissal if specified in their IEPs.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the EC teacher or school administrator.
Minimum Training and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s degree or 48 college credit hours preferred.
- Experience working with children with disabilities is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of special education practices and individualized instruction is a plus.
- Patience, compassion, and the ability to build trusting relationships with students.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards.
Must be willing to obtain a CDL with Bus driver endorsement
